REPORT ON THE JUNIOR PREMIER DIVISION

The second round of Junior Premier County Championship matches was held at the venue of Wood Green High School College of Sport Maths and Computing, Wednesbury on Saturday/Sunday 15/16 March. Essex, second from bottom after the first round of matches needed at least two wins to stand a chance of avoiding relegation. The team would be without Sarra Wang who was needed to play in the depleted Senior First Team.

REPORT ON JUNIOR DIVISION 1A MATCHES

The second round of Junior Division 1A matches took place at Grantham on Saturday 23 February. After the first round of matches in November Essex 2 held up the table with no points from three matches and thus needed at least two wins to stay in the Division.

REPORT ON JUNIOR DIVISION 2C MATCHES

The second round of Junior 2C matches was held at the St. Neots Table Tennis Centre on Saturday 19 January which included the Essex 3 and Essex 4 teams. After the first round of matches the Essex 3 team led the Division by three points but had played one match more than second placed Bedfordshire and the Essex 4 team had chances to finish second or third.

PENIEL CAPTURE TEN TITLES


Over 100 players took part in this year's Essex Closed Table Tennis Championships held at the BATTS Team Peniel Table Tennis Club in Harlow with the BATTS Team Peniel Table Tennis Club capturing 10 out of the 15 titles that were contested..As expected, the top seeded John Holland won the Mens Singles title whilst his Club mate Rebekah March was a shock Winner of the counter part Ladies Singles.

REGIONAL RANKING TRIALS BATTS HARLOW 1/2 DECEMBER 2007

The Regional Ranking Trials were held at BATTS Harlow over the weekend of 1/2 December 2007 with Under 11, 13 and 15 players from Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire taking part.

TOUGH GOING FOR JUNIOR FIRST TEAM

With a New Coach (Hill Dowsett), a new Junior Match Secretary (Arthur Clark) and three new players (Mark Mulley, Reece Tan and Stevie Pell) it proved to be a difficult weekend for the County Junior first team in the Premier Division of the County Championships held at Cippenham TTC in the last weekend of October.

County Junior Match Reports by Arthur Clark

The first round of Junior 2C matches was held at BATTS Harlow on Saturday 20 October which included the Essex 3 and Essex 4 teams. However, Staffordshire 2 withdrew their team one week before and on the Sunday evening after return from Junior British League I managed to recruit a fifth Essex team to take Staffordshire’s place and thus avoid their opponents sitting out for two hours.

2007 ESSEX JUNIOR ASSESSMENT TRIALS by Arthur Clark

The Essex Junior Assessment Trials were held at BATTS, Harlow over the weekend of 15/16 September with Under 11, 13, 15 and 18 categories for both Boys and Girls. The best supported event was the Under 18 Boys with 48 entrants. Based on the matches played and using other information such as the current ETTA National Ranking List a County Ranking List has now been issued

The BATTS Super League kicks off on Tuesday 18 September 2007 with another strong field of 32 players. Organiser Neil Brierley describes it as follows -" Places fill up fast at the BATTS Super League. Roy Franklin - Obituary

Ron Fosker of the Braintree League writes:-

You will all, I’m sure, be deeply saddened to hear that Roy Franklin, Essex County Table Tennis Association Life Member and the 1988 recipient of the Corti Woodcock Award (the County's foremost Award for services to the Sport) died in Broomfield Hospital recently. He was 79.

Top quality table tennis came to South London with the 2nd Fusion All Star open played at The Harris Girls Academy, Homestall Road, East Dulwich. With a field of 80 men and 40 Juniors competing for glory and the chance of winning over £1125 in prize money and £400 for the open winner the Fusion entry attracted an eclectic mix of players ranging from local South London school kids to players from as far a field as Sweden and the Czech Republic

NEWHAM TOWN SHOW IS A REAL HIT
